Credit Card Declined

How the scam works:

Similar to the Account Upgrade scam, this one comes as an e-mail you receive claiming to be from eBay, saying (the following is an excerpt from a real scammer’s message):

“We are writing to alert you that your balance is not paid, because your credit card company declined eBay's attempt to charge your card. Your payment is due ASAP. To speed up this process, you are required to place another credit card on the account you have on file. Update your credit card here (the scammers provide a link). As a courtesy, eBay will automatically make a second attempt to charge your card. This attempt will take place in about 3 to 5 business days. As a reminder, past due accounts may be restricted from buying or selling until payment is received”.

How to avoid:

eBay never charges your credit card – all the transactions are done through PayPal. Never offer your personal information by replying to e-mails. If there is a problem with your account, you will be notified in your Inbox, on your eBay account.
