Facebook Black: Change Theme Color

How the scam works:

It seems everyone is on Facebook these days, and logging on to post status updates on the familiar blue border and backgrounds have become a daily routine for most people.

Since Facebook was created there have been fans that have wished they could change the iconic blue background color to something a little more individual. According to a false Facebook page making the rounds, that option is now available for users of the popular social networking site; however, there is nothing to gain and everything to lose by trying to take advantage of this bogus option.

Facebook Black, as the page is called, claims to give the users the ability to change their background color from blue to any color they choose. "Are you sick of your blue background timeline? Change your Facebook color theme now", offers the new scam. Alternatively, to catch more female victims in their net, scammers suggest a change to Facebook Pink.

Of course, once the users have clicked on the link they have made themselves vulnerable. The scammers responsible for the bogus page now have the ability to steal the user’s personal identifying information, by leading the users to fake survey pages.

How to avoid:

Be aware, and spread the word, that Facebook Black is a scam page. Facebook is not going to be offering any options on background color, according to their support, and therefore any page that suggest it is possible is a phony page. Do not click on the link for the page; if you do, you’ve just given the scammers access to your personal information.

You can check out other similar survey scams (such as the "Enable Dislike Button" scam, "Facebook Free Credits" scam, or "Designer Survey" scam), which are also revealed in our app, under the Social Networking category.
